So with the Wizards of the Coast OGL debacle I’ve started to move forward on my own homebrew version of the worlds 2nd most WOKE game, just behind Pathfinder. I love games like Old School Essentials and their lack of agenda pushing. The game is just the rules and it is a breath of fresh air in this crazy world these days. However, there is something about putting your own homebrew content together in a form that can be consumed. So here we are with Dethlord the RPG.
I am not as far along as I would like but I am farther than if the OGL crap would not have come to light. I am not sure how soon the basics of the game will be out, but I am going to work on it little by little. I have put together a video explaining the vibe and the initial part of character creation that you can view below. Suffice it to say that I am going for a more O5E sort of vibe with the rules set, with a lot of home brew. The home brew nature of what I do is where I get stopped up. Mostly because I am constantly bringing rules tweaks to my table, much to the chagrin of my players. So in writing a game book the amount of times that I go back and forth on rules and tweaks is head spinning.
I have the basics of Character Creation written as well as many of the “roles”, or classes to use a D&D term. The combat is basic and written. The next major hurdle is the magic system. I am thinking of going a more generic route with specific scrolls laid out, which seems interesting to me….at least today it does. Who knows what I will end up doing. Time will tell.
